BMW Australia has confirmed pricing and specification for the fifth-generation X5 ahead of its Australian launch in Q4 2026. It will be offered as a diesel 40d xDrive, priced from $143,900, and a petrol 40 xDrive, priced from $145,900 (both plus on-roads).

The new generation advances with Neue Klasse-inspired design, BMW’s latest digital technologies and a choice of six-cylinder petrol and diesel powertrains, while retaining the popular SUV’s comfort and versatility.

A bolder exterior is led by an upright front end, vertically aligned BMW kidney grille and distinctive double-X light signatures, while muscular wheel arches and precisely sculpted surfaces retain its unmistakable character.

Inside, a refined cabin features a spacious wraparound design, with premium touches that include optional glass accents and, for the first time, natural slate surfaces. New X-pattern stitching, a redesigned steering wheel and enhanced ambient lighting are standard.

A major highlight is the debut of BMW Panoramic iDrive, powered by BMW OS X. It adds such features as Panoramic Vision, which information across the lower windscreen, a 17.9-inch central display, and a 3D head-up display. Passengers now get their own screen too.

The initial Australian line-up provides a choice of two six-cylinder engines, each paired with BMW xDrive all-wheel drive and 48V mild hybrid technology. TheX5 40d xDrive delivers 230kW and 670Nm. It’s petrol counterpart produces 294kW and 540Nm.

Standard Adaptive M Suspension and near-balanced weight distribution are paired with a spacious five-seat cabin, generous luggage capacity, BMW xDrive all-wheel drive and 3,500kg towing capability to create an SUV that is capable across multiple needs.

Standard equipment includes an M Sport Package, 21-inch wheels, a panoramic glass sunroof, ventilated and massaging front seats, soft-close doors, Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Professional.

The two six-cylinder launch variants will be joined by an electric iX5 and an X5 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid from January 2027. In the meantime, you can find out more from your local BMW dealership.
