The fully-electric MG Cyberster roadster - launched under the slogan “legends live forever” - represents a return to the car maker's iconic roots. Showcased at a special event that featured a string quartet, caviar, oysters and champagne, the new drop-top was presented to the world by TV presenter Karl Stefanovic.

In front of an assembled throng who enjoyed a decadent three-course meal, MG the TV commercial for the car, as well as providing pricing and a range of updates on what the new model features. For the record, it boasts up to 375kW of power and 725Nm of torque.

That's capable of launching the two-tonne soft-top roadster to 100km/h in just 3.2 seconds, with a range of up to 443km WLTP. A 77kWh battery and electric motor for each axle enables all-wheel drive. Pricing from $115,000 before on road costs.

Its design is both bold and sleek, with the convertible riding on stylish 20-inch wheels, detailed headlights and Union-Jack inspired taillight designs. The long scissor doors open to reveal a modern driver-focused cockpit with three panoramic LED displays behind a sporty steering wheel.

A fourth screen sits in the centre console while both occupants are held in comfortable leather seats. Both examples at the event were finished inside in Black and Red leather, with White and Grey being an alternate option.

Diamond Red Metallic and English White Standard, the latter with a red canvas roof, delivered two striking exterior schemes. Sterling Silver, Camden Grey and Royal Yellow paint shades will also be available when the Cyberster hits showrooms. 30 per cent of the first shipment for Australia has already been sold.
