Mazda Unveils Bold New Chapter with World Premiere of 2026 CX-5
Mazda Australia has today revealed the all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5, showcasing a bold redesign, increased space and comfort, and cutting-edge in-vehicle technology. As the third-generation model, the latest CX-5 reinforces the brand’s commitment to innovation while building on a legacy that began in 2012.
Since its debut, the CX-5 has become a cornerstone of Mazda’s global success—selling over 4.5 million units worldwide across more than 100 countries. In Australia, it has been a customer favourite, holding the top SUV sales position across all SUV categories from 2013 to 2019, and consistently ranking on the podium in its segment through to 2025. To date, over 316,000 CX-5s have been sold locally.
Now, the latest iteration raises the bar again, delivering more interior room, next-gen safety, and a sleek, muscular exterior that blends city-ready sophistication with adventurous capability.

Design: Familiar Shape, Fresh Details
Mazda’s design team built the new CX-5 around the concept of “Wearable Gear”—a blend of style and functionality akin to a perfectly tailored jacket. This philosophy informs a refined take on the brand’s Kodo design language, offering both versatility and road presence.
At the front, the new CX-5 features a more pronounced stance, with a wider grille framed by sharp, angular LED headlights. A design influence drawn from “Kigumi,” a traditional Japanese joinery technique, is reflected where the wing trim meets the bodywork—adding both strength and craftsmanship to the vehicle’s aesthetic.
The rear profile borrows visual cues from larger Mazda models like the CX-70 and CX-90, with bold new lighting elements and large “MAZDA” lettering replacing the traditional roundel badge, giving it greater street presence.
The new model also benefits from larger proportions, including an extra 115mm in overall length and wheelbase, along with 15mm more width, helping to create a more planted look and roomier cabin.

Inside: Comfort, Space and Craftsmanship
Open the doors, and the changes continue. With a stronger focus on passenger comfort and utility, the 2026 CX-5 delivers a spacious, thoughtfully designed interior that feels both serene and highly functional.
Updates include:
- Wider door openings for easier access, especially when loading child seats
- Increased rear passenger room, with more leg, knee, and head space
- A panoramic sunroof (on select models) for added light and openness
- Larger cargo area, now 50mm longer and 25mm taller, with a lower lift-in height for easier loading
Throughout the cabin, Mazda’s signature attention to detail is evident—from carefully curated materials and textures to ambient lighting that enhances comfort during nighttime driving.

Tech: Bigger Screens, Smarter Features
In a major step forward, the new CX-5 introduces Mazda’s largest-ever touchscreen display—a 15.6-inch integrated infotainment screen that puts connectivity and convenience front and centre. The system is intuitive and customisable, offering smartphone-style navigation and quick access to frequently used apps and controls.
The new interface is part of Mazda’s broader push to make in-car tech feel more seamless and user-friendly, without overwhelming the driver.
Safety & Performance: Confidence Behind the Wheel
Mazda continues its safety-first approach with a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), many of which are new or enhanced in this generation. These technologies support a more relaxed and confident drive, whether on the open road or in stop-start traffic.
Under the hood, the 2026 CX-5 launches with the proven 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G petrol engine, delivering 132kW and 242Nm of torque, matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission and i-Activ all-wheel drive as standard. The powertrain has been recalibrated for improved responsiveness while maintaining quiet operation and comfort.
A hybrid option for the Australian market will be confirmed in due course.
With meaningful gains in passenger and cargo space, elevated interior finishes, intuitive technology, and Mazda’s hallmark driving dynamics, the new CX-5 is poised to redefine what buyers expect from a midsize SUV.
The all-new Mazda CX-5 will arrive in Australia in 2026.
