Ford has confirmed the first electrified Bronco, the Basecamp, will be offered in Australia from the second half of 2027. It’s designed specifically for outdoor enthusiasts and those who dabble in some light off-roading.

The Bronco Basecamp is underpinned by a “super-hybrid” powertrain which Ford believes is what unlocks this vehicle’s suitability for our market. Power is delivered to the wheels by dual electric motors, front and rear, via a usable 49kWh battery pack.

A 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine is also fitted, operating solely as an on-board range extender (which never drives the wheels) to deliver an estimated driving range of 800-900km. The car’s battery pack also doubles as an off-grid power supply thanks to its 6.6kW Pro Power Onboard system.

It allows owners to run coffee makers, lights, and other devices. Cooking while camping is something the Bronco Basecamp caters for particularly well. The vehicle’s rear swing gate features the ‘Wild Kitchen’, an integrated fold-down table for organising your cooking gear.

The Outer Banks variant will also feature an integrated 7.5-litre storage console with heating and cooling functions for your drinks and trail snacks. Its real party piece is its ability to transform into a literal base camp itself.

The interior of the Bronco Basecamp can be converted into a sleeping space, with an optional, custom-fit inflatable mattress that fills the entire cabin. Also fitted to the Outer Banks offering is a Pop-Up Lift Roof, which at the push of a button increases interior headroom and maximises air circulation.

The intention is for the typical aftermarket accessories many adventurous vehicle buyers would normally opt for to be integrated into this vehicle’s DNA.

“When we looked at how Aussies and Kiwis spend their time outdoors, the national parks, the coastal trails, and the distances they travel, the fit was immediate,” Ford Australia marketing director Ambrose Henderson said.

“Outdoor life here isn’t a trend, it’s just life. Bronco Basecamp was almost purpose-built for these customers.”

Complete specifications, pricing, grade structure, and exact arrival timing will be shared closer to its official launch in the second half of 2027.
